I am an Atlanta artist with a strong connection to the coastal area and my work is represented in galleries throughout the southeast. As a self taught artist my approach to painting is intuitive rather than technical and has been described as contemporary folk art with a touch of pop nature. Heavy textures and a vibrant color palette contrasted with cool tones are common themes throughout my work. I am influenced by travel and connect closely with natural textures and vintage papers. Nature elements such as water and trees are also strong symbols found within my work. Follow my exploration of color, texture and inspiration….
Vintage papers and Books – I love to read and prefer books published decades ago to contemporary authors. Give me the feel of a hardback any day.
Trees and Found Objects – I also like to incorporate reclaimed items, particularly wood elements, into my work in addition to painting trees throughout my landscapes. The sculptural, tactile nature of painting is very appealing to my sensibilities and led me to mixed media and experimentation in pottery. Examples of reclaimed beach fencing used as framing and figures created from found objects.
Travel and Photography - I began my journey in painting after an incredible trip to Tahiti. The warm climate and striking blues gave me a great deal of inspiration and completely changed my outlook. Inspirations from Paris can also be found in my landscapes. I capture memories and ideas for painting with photography and draw energy from the composition and color found in my photography.
